Oh Maria… is an intimate look into the never-ending Catholic guilt of Maria Patricia Abuel. Through a split screen single-channel video, focus is given to the Virgin Mary as the central female figure in Catholicism and a constant reminder in the artist’s life from her name to her education. With her choice of referencing specific television shows to music, Maria seeks to reconcile the burdens of her Catholic upbringing by finding matriarchal figures other than the Virgin Mary through her continued explorations
of feminism and her own morality.
