Karaoke is a popular pastime among Filipinos. In this videoke (a karaoke video), a woman performs caricatures of popular images of the love-struck or mysterious beach girl. By challenging the stereotypes of Filipino women, the video honours their struggles. The original lyrics of the popular love song “Kailan" express the frustration of longing for romantic love from the perspectives of a school girl. Here the lyrics are altered into an ode to strong, hardworking, and sacrificial Filipino women.
