Islands II

In this maximalist iteration of Islands, the Filipina brown body is observed again as a vulnerable subject, but instead shown as a body accepting instead of resisting the postcolonial effects of religion, classism, and shadism. Through the private bathroom setting, the naked body is exposed, as well as the physical, mental, and emotional anguish of the bather. The bathroom can be a place of refuge and relaxation, offering privacy and time for reflection and relaxation through focus on self-care through cleansing. However, when the conditions are not favourable, this mundane task can bring forth hyper awareness of discomfort, personal insecurities, and social and economic disadvantages one reluctantly faces in daily life.
